Campaigners are due to call on MSPs to back their drive for a drug used to treat cancer being made more readily available on the NHS.

Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN) has also been used by sufferers to treat HIV/Aids, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and multiple sclerosis.

But many GPs are reluctant to prescribe it because of a lack of clinical trials.

Cancer drug access urged

The barriers that patients face getting a cancer-treating drug on the NHS is a "public scandal", MSPs heard.

Many GPs are reluctant to prescribe Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN) because it remains unlicensed in the UK and there is a lack of clinical trials.

Celia Danks, 58, told the petitions committee LDN helped her overcome lung cancer, adding: "I think it's a public scandal it's not investigated."
